But maybe it would help to concentrate on things that were less stressful. Not easy to do in the middle of a murder trial, admittedly...

Being stuck in there with all of that was the worst part, I think.

So maybe it'll let up soon. And if it's like last week, it'll go away on Monday. I an probably endure another day, if I don't think about tomorrow too much. I just... don't like that someone else has to die and we can't do anything about it. I don't even know what I'd do if we could do anything. My powers aren't good for this.

Yeah, I know. Some people say we should still try, but the odds are stacked against us. We can't even talk to their god, let alone get to whatever "outside force" is making people act weird.

...I also think we should try, but I might mean it differently than some do. We're at a significant disadvantage, and destroying things and throwing ourselves at barriers won't change anything.

Sometimes the best way to fight is to endure, and wait, and hope that eventually there's a promising way out.

That's supposed to be our "redemption," isn't it? That's the whole reason we were brought here in the first place.

But waiting two months while something like this happens and more people die...

No. I don't think that's good enough. Barely any of us would be left, and so many souls lost, and we can't be sure this won't cost all of us that chance.

I only mean that if we don't see a path in front of us, that doesn't mean one won't ever appear.

It's... [ how to explain. ] Madam's son left the Tower when he shouldn't have, and now he's in a lot of danger. They've been doing investigations and stuff to try to find him, but it wasn't something I could have helped with... but someone gave me a way. What you're saying sounds a little like that.

Well, considering he left with a wanted criminal, you could say they "escaped."

So, essentially, you offered to help them capture your friend.

What? No, no, that's - I think you're misunderstanding. That guy he's with - he's not just a criminal, he's a Lily. Even if Iris wasn't the most naive person on the planet, all that guy would have to do is hypnotize him to make him say or do or believe anything he wants. And it's not just him - Iris is a target for everyone with how rare his powers are.

The Tower's our home. Even if Iris is a pain in the ass... I just want him to be safe.

I know you're only looking out for you friend. It just - hearing that you're told not to leave and they hunt down the ones that do, you do get why that's concerning?

It's not like someone from the Tower hunts people down if they leave. We're warned against it because of the spawncampers that live outside.

What will the spawncampers do if they catch you?

They harvest body parts from demiflora. Like Lily eyes and stuff - the parts that hold our powers. They make a living off of selling those parts, and if I remember right, they have to do it while we’re alive, or else the power fades.
