If you want my honest opinion, Shadowheart - I think Anders will be better off, for as devastating as it will be for him to do it. And it isn't because of Hawke, no matter my opinion on his personality - it's because of what Hawke represents.
If he's not under someone else's shadow, he'll be able to find other avenues. Already, being here and seeing that other people share his opinions on his right to exist has done some good.
And presumably those people won't turn and execute him for his beliefs after pretending to be his friend for seven years.

I'm not sure it was for his beliefs so much as for his actions, but I take your point. If you are going to execute a friend for going too far, it is slightly weird to also try to bed them.
