I'm sure we would all rather avoid it if there happened to be a better way. Even knowing that they're close by and safe doesn't negate the difficulties of passing for them, or loss for the rest.

Whether it's right or whether it isn't, I don't want to keep hurting people I care about. I don't want that to be the only thing I can do. It isn't fair.

He meets the upset with the same sort of mellow air, though there's concern in it, too. And something adamant as he says:]

I think the only comforts anyone could give are cold. You can't reassure me it doesn't have to be that way, because it does.

So it does. [There's a little lilt of something softly melancholic, but it doesn't surface for long.] ...At the very least, we can do whatever possible to support one another through the difficulties, in whatever ways we can.
